Scientific Reason You Should Never Hit Snooze on Your Alarm Clock

Mel Robbins, a New York Times best-selling author from the US, explained how the simple habit could leave you feeling disoriented - lasting from as little as 15 minutes to a few hours after waking up.

“There’s a scientific reason why you should never hit the snooze button... Let me hit you with some neuroscience here. Two words, sleep inertia,” Robbins said in her podcast.

People with sleep inertia often struggle to shake off the feeling of grogginess, disorientation and drowsiness that seems to weigh them down when they wake up from a sleep.

“When you hit the snooze button, you’re awake and as the alarm turns off, your brain then drifts back into sleep.

“And here’s the thing that researchers have figured out - when you drift back to sleep after you’ve woken up, your brain starts a sleep cycle.
